There are several methods involved when installing a concrete driveway to help prevent future cracking. Solid driveways start with a strong foundation. Our heavy construction machines will give the ground under the driveway proper grade and compaction to start with a solid level surface. Next a gravel base is laid that is compacted and level to ensure an even slab thickness to prevent cracking and settlement. Fiber or Wire mesh will provide additional structural capacity. To prevent random cracking it is important to install control joints at least every 10 feet. Isolation joints are installed where the concrete driveway meets the sidewalk and the garage floor. Joints are planned cracks that allow the concrete to expand and contract naturally with the climate.
